Week 8 Dailies: The Continuity Pass
Dailies for the week's reference-ladder exercise.
28 April 2027
- Monday lecture: Continuity
- Wednesday Dailies: The Continuity Pass
- Friday due: A8 (3%)
Bring all four reference sets, the two-shot scene generated against each, and the audit notes — the pass/fail log is what gets checked, not a general impression of the shots. Each reference set goes up first, before its matching pair of shots plays, so the room has something fixed to check against. The two shots screen immediately after their set — face next to face, prop next to prop — and notes are logged item by item: does this shot match the model sheet, does it match the master plate, not as one verdict for the whole pair. A drifted detail gets named precisely: which item, which shot, what changed. The top tier’s master plate is meant to hold from here on; anyone proposing to swap it mid-season makes that case out loud, in the room.
What gets screened#
Four reference sets and the two-shot cut generated against each. The scale is how many references it takes before the cut stops changing things nobody asked it to change.
The rungs, in the order they screen:
- 1 reference: face — the coat and the street move across the cut
- 2 references: face + full body — coat length and boots hold across it
- 4 references: + dry state — the hair reads dry before she steps out
- 5 references: + scene — the same place at the same hour in both shots
A set that pins the face and lets the world drift reads as a continuity error long before anyone can say which item caused it. Closing that gap is what an itemised audit is for.
The smallest set that held is the one to build the next scene on; the item that broke first is the one to add to it.
The rungs above are not a description. The rig recorded them once, and that recording is the scale: replay the four sets this Dailies is measured against.
