Periods

Twelve weeks: four on the ground, four in the simulator, and then you fly.

The school owns four aircraft. You will fly one of them, once, alone, in week 10 — and again in week 12 for the check ride. Everything else on this page is preparation for those two sorties.

Weeks 1 to 4 are on the ground and end with an examination you have to pass to continue. Weeks 5 to 8 are in the simulator and end with the progression check, which is the gate: no signature, no aircraft. Week 9 is the last period before you fly, and it has almost no aerodynamics in it.

Egress

The first period of the course teaches you to leave the aircraft, because that is the skill with the shortest deadline

Week 1 · 22 February 2027

Unstable by design

Why this aircraft cannot fly without the computer that flies it, and why that was the point

Week 2 · 1 March 2027

Control authority

The limits the flight control system enforces, what it will refuse to let you do, and who is actually in command

Week 3 · 8 March 2027

Energy

Altitude and airspeed are one quantity in two denominations, and every manoeuvre is a transaction in it

Week 4 · 15 March 2027

Takeoff, and the point of commitment

The first simulator period, built around the speed after which stopping is no longer one of your options

Week 5 · 22 March 2027

The sidestick that barely moves

Flying by pressure rather than displacement, and learning to stop arguing with a system that responds faster than you do

Week 6 · 29 March 2027

The circuit

A rectangle flown at a fixed angle of attack, and why the airspeed indicator is the wrong instrument to fly an approach on

Week 7 · 5 April 2027

Landing and the aerobrake

The last simulator period, ending in the progression check that decides whether you fly in week 10

Week 8 · 12 April 2027

The go-around gate

Deciding to abandon an approach before you are on it, because the moment you need the decision is the worst moment to make it

Week 9 · 19 April 2027

First flight, solo

Your first flight in the aircraft, which is also your first flight alone in it, because this type has no second seat to put anyone in

Week 10 · 26 April 2027

Abnormals

Deep stall, manual pitch override, and the altitude below which the correct action is to leave the aircraft

Week 11 · 3 May 2027

Check ride

The final sortie, flown to published tolerance, assessed on one question — whether the aircraft can fly again tomorrow

Week 12 · 10 May 2027
