Week 8 Period: Landing and the aerobrake
The last simulator period, ending in the progression check that decides whether you fly in week 10
12 April 2027
Before you arrive#
Your six covered-indicator circuits from week 7, with the resulting airspeeds.
In this period#
Touchdown is not the end of the approach — it is the start of a deceleration flown with the same wing, on the ground.
Hold the nose up after the main wheels touch and the aircraft becomes a large airbrake: the wing that was lifting is now mostly drag, which slows the aircraft more effectively than the wheel brakes at that speed. There is a speed below which the elevator can no longer hold the nose up; lower it deliberately just before that point, rather than waiting for it to fall on its own.
The second half of the period is the progression check:
- flown to the published tolerances
- not negotiable
- with no fixed number of attempts
Tomas signs it in week 9 rather than sign it early.
Afterwards#
If you passed, the authorisation for week 10 goes to Wren for signature. If you did not, book the box — nobody flies the aircraft without this signature.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you can land in the touchdown zone at the correct attitude, consistently
- you can aerobrake and know the speed at which to stop
- you have passed the progression check, or you have not, and you know which
