Week 12 Period: Check ride
The final sortie, flown to published tolerance, assessed on one question — whether the aircraft can fly again tomorrow
10 May 2027
Before you arrive#
Your card, your gates, and your decision altitude in the form you defended in week 11.
In this period#
One takeoff, one circuit, one landing, flown to the tolerances published on the standards page. Wren observes from the tower and Ida receives the aircraft.
Two things about how this is graded, stated here rather than left to be discovered:
- a go-around is not a failure. If your gates say to abandon the approach and you abandon it, you have demonstrated the thing this course is for.
- flying a marginal approach to a landing because it is the check ride is the failure the examiner is watching for.
The mark is not an average of your control inputs. It is a judgement on the sortie as a whole, answering the question the course has asked since week 1: can this aircraft fly again tomorrow, and was that the outcome of what you did rather than of what you got away with.
Afterwards#
Sign it back in. The course ends when the airframe is serviceable and in Ida’s hands.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you fly the profile within the published tolerances
- you go around if your own gates say to, and are not penalised for it
- the aircraft is serviceable when you sign it back in
