THE ACADEMY / IMPOSSIBLE SKILLS

Policies and support

Clear expectations for skill evidence, collaboration, accessible learning, feedback, extensions and local browser records.

In-person study and online participation

In-person attendance is the preferred teaching route. Campus sessions combine a briefing, facilitated apparatus or paper-model practice, peer discussion and the recorded outcome appropriate to each activity. Students unable to attend can use the published materials and equivalent online activities. Both routes share the outcomes, assessment criteria and required evidence; a campus station record does not require an additional browser completion.

Online group work can use a shared screen with rotating control. Keep role and contribution evidence for every member. Accessible alternatives and individual arrangements below remain available in either mode. Identify whether observations came from physical apparatus, paper rules or a browser simulation.

For preparation, the dated timetable and teaching responsibilities, use the Course guide. For a specific difficulty, start with Getting help.

The course and its limits

MASTERMIND is an original fictional Slop University course about observation, memory, mechanisms, electronics, digital investigation and team problem-solving. Its academy, Meridian Station, people and missions are invented. Security activities use local authored systems; movement activities use explicit game rules.

The browser route teaches stated concepts and decisions. It does not certify physical dexterity, professional competence or photographic memory. Campus apparatus is a specified teaching design, with paper alternatives available; browser testing does not validate physical construction.

This website is a course prototype. It has no enrolment service, staff messaging, online grading or institutional submission endpoint.

Two routes to the same outcomes

Every lab provides an interactive browser route and a campus pack containing equipment, setup, activities and explanation. Students unable to attend the campus lab can complete the browser route. Those using an adapted medium submit an equivalent record of prediction, action, result and transfer.

A student is assessed on the published learning criteria, not walking speed, reaction time, pointer precision, visual acuity or acting confidence. A simulation record and a physical measurement record may differ in format while supplying evidence for the same conceptual outcome.

The academy provides direct links to every week and assessment. Recommended progress never locks a required page. Samples remain labelled as supplied material.

Collaboration and attribution

Fieldwork and A1 are individual. Discussing published rules is permitted, but the submitted record and explanation must represent your own understanding. A2 uses pairs; the final project normally combines two pairs into a group of four.

Record responsibilities as work happens. Browser role labels identify selected roles, not authenticated people. A contribution statement must explain who performed, checked and interpreted the work. Both A2 members rotate roles. Every final-project member explains one dependency outside their principal role.

Declare substantial assistance, copied material and AI-generated content. State what was used and how you checked it. A fluent explanation does not verify a measurement or rule. Do not present a supplied exemplar, sample attempt or another person’s experience as your own.

Disagreement and unavailable teammates

State the disputed decision, the relevant records and the proposed next check. Record an unresolved issue rather than claiming unanimous agreement.

If a teammate becomes unavailable, preserve completed individual work and contribution evidence. Raise the situation with the fictional teaching team for an individual arrangement. Their absence does not erase work already completed by others.

The final project’s group criteria supply 80% of the task mark. The individual defence supplies 20% separately for each member. There is no automatic popularity multiplier.

Feedback and marks

Activities provide immediate rule-based results, hints and explanations. Hints remain available during practice and do not reduce a displayed academic mark. Open-ended reflections receive prompts and examples, not automated grades.

A mission ending is not an academic grade. Demonstrated skill, evidence, diagnosis, transfer and explanation determine the published criteria. A successful outcome may rest on weak reasoning; an incomplete operation may expose strong diagnosis and honest limitations.

Major-task feedback is scheduled within seven days. Lab feedback combines the immediate model response with peer and tutor discussion. Refer to the exact record or sentence when asking for clarification.

Due times, missed labs and extensions

All due times use Australia/Canberra. Weekly records are due at 17:00 on the Friday date shown on their lab pages. The best ten of twelve count; the final portfolio closes on 28 May 2027 at 17:00.

One declared 48-hour extension per student is available across major assignments, capped at the teaching-period end. For shared work, record the extension with the team; it does not silently change another team’s deadline.

Later arrangements and final-week needs require a stated individual arrangement. A standard extension cannot move the final project beyond 28 May. These are fictional SlopU course rules, separate from the ANU assignment used to assess this website.

Accessible participation

The 3D presentation has an interactive HTML alternative using the same domain rules. Printable worksheets and explanations remain available without JavaScript. Use keyboard controls, explicit step buttons, spoken or written handoffs, and ordered text instead of diagrams when appropriate.

Motion can be reduced. Sound is optional and conveys no unique required information. Pausing is available; no essential skill check requires rapid input. Evidence-based role-play does not assess theatrical performance or body-language interpretation.

Where physical equipment is unavailable, the complete paper model preserves the conceptual exercise. Do not claim a paper or browser result as a measured hardware result.

Saving, exports and privacy

Practice is stored locally in the current browser. There are no accounts or automatic cross-device synchronisation. Export a JSON backup to move or restore work. Markdown and print exports provide readable records.

Clearing browser data may remove saved work. If storage is blocked or full, the current page continues in memory and export remains available. Export before leaving that page. The application warns about competing browser-tab edits rather than silently treating them as collaboration.

Imports accept validated JSON up to 1 MB. Unsupported versions, unknown identifiers and malformed data are rejected before replacing current work. Replacing a non-empty record requires confirmation. Corrupt existing data is preserved for explicit recovery. The earlier curriculum’s version-one record is retained as legacy data; it is not reclassified as evidence of newly taught skills.

No activity sends responses to an AI service or grading server. Exporting does not submit an assignment.

Original materials and help

The teaching materials, fictional records and game rules were authored for this prototype with coding-agent assistance under Adithya Rama’s course direction. Slop University branding and the platform come from the supplied starter. Asset and external-reference credits appear in the resource library.

Start with the relevant worked example, supplied rules and assessment brief. In the fictional taught course, unresolved questions go to Monday briefings or Friday labs. Teaching profiles describe responsibilities; they do not imply live contact accounts.

Revised activity records

Earlier training records and completed version-two final missions remain historical evidence that you can export. They do not automatically satisfy the revised investigations or conditional final mission. A current attempt starts with its own requirements; old records are not silently relabelled as new achievement. Keep an exported backup before starting another trial.
