THE DEMONSTRATION STUDIO / WATCH · INSPECT · TAKE CONTROL

Recover the rainfall recorder

A complete alternate worked example, followed by meaningful takeover practice.

The method behind this example

Choose the checks justified by the declared outcome and preserve what remains unverified.

Your independent challenge: The rainfall case has a different item and custody arrangement. Your final approach determines its own required checks.

The investigated explanation and learning record complete this example. The scene delivery is an optional extension.

Start this worked example

  1. Choose Watch the worked example. The student demonstrator explains the task, talks through each action, then reviews the observations and finished submission. Narration starts with this click; Mute narration keeps the same experience captioned.
  2. Choose Take control to try the current chapter. Follow its prompt, change the labelled controls and select Test my decision.
  3. Read the feedback, retry if needed, then continue with Next chapter. Each checked chapter provides evidence for one connected operation.
  4. After every chapter check, return to the mission station, perform the intervention, collect its package and follow the marked checkpoints to complete the handover. Watching performs these same actions with narration. Direct chapter access is a partial preview until the full evidence and handover are complete.
  5. Use Fullscreen mission after opening the scene to keep the instructions, chapter controls and equipment together. Reflections and exports come after your practical attempt.

This is an alternate example, not your assigned exercise. Your course task is linked after the player.

YOUR SKILL

Small integrated recovery

A NEW SETTING

At Lark Weather Mast, a team must preserve a rainfall recorder before a maintenance closure.

WHAT CHANGES

This compact weather-mast operation differs from both Meridian and the longer Halcyon final demonstration.

Who is responsible at Lark Weather Mast

A team recovers verified rainfall data while preserving the original recorder.

Your part
Watch follows a worked solution. Take control lets you move the student avatar and try its decisions. The demonstrator in the explanation is modelling a solution, not an extra witness in the story.
Your instructor
Mara stands in the marked teaching bay outside the investigation area. She guides the exercise. Her presence, appearance and idle gestures are not clues about what happened in the case.
People in this scenario
  • The operator's completeness report and the custodian's handling agreement appear in the example records. Neither person is Mara. The demonstrator is the example learner following the team's decisions.
What counts as evidence
Check the operator's claim against the manifest; use the custodian's agreement and confirmed handoff for custody.
Why the objects are here
The room presents the recorder's observation scene, a model lift and record candidates. Each chapter states which apparatus or record it represents.
An original academy with bronze arches, a central mechanism and illuminated workbenches.

Before we beginYour worked-example briefing

I need to recover verified rainfall data while preserving the original recorder. I will define success, separate an operator's claim from evidence, verify support equipment and data identity, then agree a documented handoff. My after-action account must compare the result with the actual objective. The method we are practising is: Choose the checks justified by the declared outcome and preserve what remains unverified.. Our field objective is: Recover the Lark Weather Mast rainfall record before closure with explicit original custody. A selected ending alone does not establish identity, feasible handling or receipt. The investigation and explained record complete this lesson. A scene delivery is an optional extension. You can pause, mute, replay, or take control at any point. The captions show the same explanation.

Narration starts after you choose Watch or Play. Captions remain available if this browser has no working voice.

Optional scene extension

Each chapter provides evidence for this operation. Inspect, investigate, act, and complete the handover.

THE DEMONSTRATOR’S REASONING

Choose a testable objective

The charter asks for verified rainfall data while keeping the original recorder stable. The demonstrator separates that objective from automatically moving the whole instrument.

Why this matters

The chosen prize is not always the actual goal.

A plausible mistake

Physical removal could violate a constraint while appearing dramatic.

YOUR LEARNING CONTROLS

Make the skill your own.

Select the objective that matches the charter.

Watch the apparatus change as the student demonstrates. Take control whenever you want to test the same idea yourself.

BASED ON YOUR ATTEMPTS

Watching and practising are recorded separately in this visit. These examples do not change your assessed work or skills passport.

NOW TRANSFER THE SKILL

Carry the method into your own work.

The rainfall case has a different item and custody arrangement. Your final approach determines its own required checks.

Completed demonstration example — Lark Weather Mast recovery

Mission contract

Recover verified rainfall data while keeping the original recorder stable. Abort movement if the support apparatus cannot meet its required output. The original remains with the mast custodian.

Evidence and actions

The display read 16:25 and the service lamp was amber. The operator's completeness statement remained a claim until the manifest check.

A 16-tooth driver and 32-tooth follower produced two opposite output turns from four input turns after recorded readiness checks. Copy Ash contained 12 records and matched W-6; Birch contained 11/W-3 and did not meet the request.

The operator read back “Ash copy, twelve records, W-6.” The custodian confirmed transfer and retained the original at Lark.

Resolution

Verified digital data recovered; original stabilised in place; receipt and custody recorded.

Alternative and limit

Physical removal was unnecessary for the research-access objective and would introduce handling work. Matching W-6 establishes identity against the reference, not calibration accuracy. A calibration review remains the next question.

Reflection

The operation worked because several modest checks connected: observation informed investigation, mechanical verification supported handling, and a clear agreement defined what recovery meant. I would not describe this as physical recovery or as proof that every rainfall measurement is correct.

Named output: recovery-record. Separate from the Meridian assessment and the Halcyon final demonstration.

Method to carry forward

Choose the checks justified by the declared outcome and preserve what remains unverified.

The rainfall case has a different item and custody arrangement. Your final approach determines its own required checks.

The complete example explains one defensible approach. In your own challenge, select observations and tests from the supplied rules, keep your prediction separate from the result, and justify both the checks you perform and those you omit.

The chapter investigation and its explained record complete the core method. The scene delivery is an optional extension; it is not evidence of deeper understanding on its own.

Before we begin · expected task and evidence

1. Choose a testable objective

What I need to do: Step 1. Choose a testable objective. I distinguish recovering verified data from automatically moving the whole recorder.

Supplied context: The charter asks for verified rainfall data while keeping the original recorder stable. The demonstrator separates that objective from automatically moving the whole instrument.

Watch my actions: For "Mission objective", I choose "Recover verified data and preserve the original". I check the demonstrated result.

What I observed: The objective can be checked against a final result. The chosen prize is not always the actual goal.

Why: The chosen prize is not always the actual goal.

Decision: Select the objective that matches the charter.

  • Mission objective: Recover verified data and preserve the original

Result: The objective can be checked against a final result.

Common mistake: Physical removal could violate a constraint while appearing dramatic.

2. Inspect the signal

What I need to do: Step 2. Inspect the signal. I record the visible signal and keep the operator's completeness report as a claim until I check the manifest.

Supplied context: The model displays 16:25 and an amber service lamp. The operator reports that the recorder is complete, but the manifest still needs checking.

Watch my actions: For "Completeness statement", I choose "claim". I check the demonstrated result.

What I observed: The account is preserved for verification instead of becoming an assumed fact. A useful reconnaissance record separates display observations from someone's account.

Why: A useful reconnaissance record separates display observations from someone's account.

Decision: Classify the completeness assertion.

  • Completeness statement: claim

Result: The account is preserved for verification instead of becoming an assumed fact.

Common mistake: A confident operator cannot replace the manifest comparison.

3. Verify support equipment

What I need to do: Step 3. Verify support equipment. I test the already-prepared support mechanism against its predicted output rather than assuming readiness guarantees the result.

Supplied context: The support lift uses a 16-tooth driver and 32-tooth follower. Four input turns should produce two opposite output turns. The readiness checks are already satisfied and recorded.

Watch my actions: For "Input turns", I enter 4 turns. I check the demonstrated result.

What I observed: The support mechanism's result matches its prediction. A familiar relation can be applied to unfamiliar numbers.

Why: A familiar relation can be applied to unfamiliar numbers.

Decision: Apply the required input turns.

  • Input turns: 4 turns

Result: The support mechanism's result matches its prediction.

Common mistake: Seeing movement without comparing the required amount would be incomplete.

4. Select the requested data

What I need to do: Step 4. Select the requested data. I compare both record count and digest against the signed requirement.

Supplied context: The signed manifest requests 12 records with digest W-6. Copy Ash has 12/W-6; Birch has 11/W-3. The team selects Ash and states that matching the reference does not prove every measurement scientifically correct.

Watch my actions: For "Data copy", I choose "Ash". I check the demonstrated result.

What I observed: The selection meets both published conditions. Digital identity and semantic truth remain distinct even in an urgent mission.

Why: Digital identity and semantic truth remain distinct even in an urgent mission.

Decision: Choose the matching copy.

  • Data copy: Ash

Result: The selection meets both published conditions.

Common mistake: A file's existence is not evidence of completeness.

5. Agree the limited recovery

What I need to do: Step 5. Agree the limited recovery. I confirm which copy is transferred, what stays in place, and who accepts custody.

Supplied context: The custodian accepts verified data transfer while keeping the recorder stable at the mast. The operator reads back 'Ash copy, twelve records, W-6' and receives confirmation.

Watch my actions: I set "Copy and custody agreement confirmed" to yes. I check the demonstrated result.

What I observed: The recovery satisfies the data objective without pretending the instrument moved. The agreement connects the technical result to custody and responsibility.

Why: The agreement connects the technical result to custody and responsibility.

Decision: Confirm the matching read-back.

  • Copy and custody agreement confirmed: Yes

Result: The recovery satisfies the data objective without pretending the instrument moved.

Common mistake: Calling the ending physical recovery would misstate what was achieved.

6. Compare outcome with intent

What I need to do: Step 6. Compare outcome with intent. I compare the achieved recovery with the objective and identify the calibration question the identity check did not answer.

Supplied context: The final record includes the verified copy, original location, apparatus test and an unresolved calibration question. The team chooses a targeted calibration review as its next action.

Watch my actions: For "After-action conclusion", I choose "Data identity verified; calibration remains a separate question". I check the demonstrated result.

What I observed: The debrief explains the achieved recovery without overstating it. An ending should explain both met requirements and remaining uncertainty.

Why: An ending should explain both met requirements and remaining uncertainty.

Decision: Choose the honest debrief.

  • After-action conclusion: Data identity verified; calibration remains a separate question

Result: The debrief explains the achieved recovery without overstating it.

Common mistake: An outcome badge cannot certify the scientific accuracy of every record.

Optional field extension

All chapter evidence checks are complete. I return to the mission station and prepare the rainfall recovery. I am putting the verified solution into effect, then checking what changes.

I collect Lark rainfall recovery package. The verified intervention released this package. I now carry it through the marked handover route.

I carry Lark rainfall recovery package to Mast staging post. I confirm this checkpoint before continuing so the handover trace records the route actually followed.

I carry Lark rainfall recovery package to Custodian receipt station. I confirm this checkpoint before continuing so the handover trace records the route actually followed.

At the receiving station, I complete the rainfall handover. I check the receipt before calling the field operation complete.

My observations and finished submission

I recorded the 16:25 display and amber lamp, kept completeness as a claim, and verified the support lift's two opposite output turns. Ash matched the twelve-record W-6 request. The agreed recovery transferred that verified copy while leaving the recorder stable at its mast. I completed the account with the original's location, confirmed handoff and unresolved calibration question. Choose the checks justified by the declared outcome and preserve what remains unverified. Open "Read the finished work" or download the complete example to inspect the evidence and explanation together. The rainfall case has a different item and custody arrangement. Your final approach determines its own required checks.

The complete submission is available in Read the finished work above and as a Markdown download.
