Final project: A short visual story

A 2–3 minute short film and production dossier that demonstrates a deliberate point of view, ethical practice and revision through feedback.

Due: 28 May 2027 at 12:00 pm (Canberra time) · Weight: 60%

The brief

Create a 2–3 minute short film about a person, place, process or question that you can approach responsibly. The project may be observational, interview-led, essayistic or process-based, but it must make a specific viewing experience rather than act as a promotional video.

Scope the project so it can be shot, edited and revised during the semester. A polished small story is stronger than an unfinished large one.

What you submit

Upload a captioned H.264 MP4, 1080p or lower, plus a 3–5 page PDF production dossier. The dossier includes a logline, audience statement, storyboard or edit map, production log, two feedback changes, consent/media record and a 400-word critical reflection.

Milestones

Bring a one-sentence premise in Week 8, a rough cut in Week 10 and a revised cut to the Week 11 peer review.

The spec

The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.

  • a 2–3 minute MP4 works as a self-contained viewing experience
  • the work uses a clear point of view and a justified formal approach
  • the dossier documents planning, feedback, permissions and external media
