A rough cut earns its name: structure is decided, but sound, colour and pacing are still open. Screening it now, once and without interruption, tests the story and structure decision while there’s still time to fix it — the moment you explain a shot or answer a question mid-viewing, you lose the one thing a first, unbriefed reaction could tell you. This lecture works through eliciting description before prescription, separating an observable problem from a stated preference, and triaging feedback that converges across viewers from a single person’s taste.

We close on the deliverable that carries into your final-project dossier: choosing two feedback changes and writing the reasoning — the observation, who raised it, and the edit decision — that connects each one back to what a viewer actually experienced.

Bring a 90-second to 3-minute rough cut, a short list of questions for your viewers, and your media record.
