Production guide
Equipment, safety, file handling and reference-viewing habits for SLOP1416.
Equipment
A phone that records video is enough for every assessed task. Bring headphones when possible, and use a tripod, clip microphone or university kit only when it makes the story clearer. Equipment does not receive marks on its own.
File workflow
Create one folder per project: student-number_project-date. Keep camera originals, project files, exports and your production log together. Make two copies before you delete footage: one local copy and one cloud or external-drive copy.
Safe and respectful production
Ask before recording an identifiable person. Explain the purpose, where the work may appear and how they can withdraw consent. Do not film in restricted workplaces, private homes, clinical spaces or moments of distress without explicit approval and a safe course-approved plan.
Captions and credits
Every assessed video needs captions. Credit music, images, archive material and collaborators. If you cannot explain where an asset came from, do not include it.
Reference viewing
Each module asks you to watch a short work with a specific question. Keep a viewing notebook: record one image choice, one sound choice and one editing choice you can describe precisely. The goal is not to copy a style; it is to notice how a viewer’s attention is guided.
Technical support
Bring a short sample or a screenshot of the problem to studio. Questions about files, captions and editing software are easier to solve when the teaching team can see what happened.
