Week 12: Screening and portfolio
Screen final work, reflect on a semester of revisions and prepare a portfolio package for submission.

A public screening is a different test to any review this course has run so far: the audience meets the work with no accumulated context, so form and content are read exactly as delivered, unintended readings included. This lecture treats the screening as deliberate research — one specific question, asked before any general reaction — then works through the 3-2-1 backup principle and a submission checklist built directly from the final project’s exact spec.
Outline
We open with what changes when a stranger, not a collaborator, watches the cut, and how to design a one-question exercise that produces a usable answer rather than a polite one. From there the session moves to backup and submission discipline: keeping footage, project file and dossier in more than one location, and checking the exported file against the brief’s technical spec before upload. The closing section is portfolio reflection as synthesis — naming the specific weeks (light and colour, recording sound, storyboards, continuity, captions and audience, rough-cut revision) that produced specific decisions in the final project, so the 400-word reflection reads as evidence rather than a general statement of growth.
Bring your current export, your dossier and one question you want an audience to answer.
