Assessment 1: Shot Reading & Fundamentals
An online visual and multiple-choice assessment covering Weeks 1–4: table understanding, pre-shot setup, straight-shot diagnosis, and object-ball path and contact-point reasoning.
Due: 17 March 2027 · Weight: 20%
The brief#
An online, visual, multiple-choice assessment. Using diagrams and labelled placeholders, it checks table understanding, pre-shot setup recognition, straight-shot diagnosis, and object-ball path / contact-point reasoning.
This assessment only draws on Weeks 1 to 4. It does not test cue-ball control, spin, or position play, since none of that has been taught yet at this point in the course.
What you submit#
Completed online, individually, within the assessment window.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- you can identify basic table parts, turn-taking and simple legal/illegal situations (Week 1)
- you can recognise a correct pre-shot setup and spot a common setup error (Week 2)
- you can diagnose a likely cause behind a repeated straight-shot miss (Week 3)
- you can name the contact point and pocket line for a given straight or angled shot (Week 4)
How it is marked
