What this course is, who it's for, and how the twelve weeks build toward the final challenge.
Course Overview#
What this course is#
SLOP1677 is a 12-week beginner pool course built around a single idea: every shot should prepare the next one. Rather than treating potting as the whole game, the course treats each shot as a small decision inside a longer plan — where the cue ball ends up matters as much as whether the object ball goes in.
Learning philosophy#
Skills are introduced in the order they’re needed to plan further ahead. You can’t control position until you can read a table, and you can’t plan three shots ahead until you can control position — so the course builds one capability on top of the last rather than covering topics in isolation.
Who this course is for#
Complete beginners and casual players. No prior competition experience or formal coaching is assumed — only a willingness to spend time at the table.
Learning outcomes#
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- read a table and identify sound shot options, not just the most obvious one
- control cue-ball speed and spin to reliably finish in a chosen position
- plan and execute a short sequence of shots where each sets up the next
- apply basic safety play and table strategy in a casual match
How the twelve weeks build#
The course moves through three stages, roughly four weeks each:
- See the Shot — rules, aiming, contact, and cue-ball movement.
- Control the Shot — stop, follow, draw, spin, rails, and positional control.
- Think Beyond the Shot — position play, three-shot planning, safety, table reading, and match strategy.
Detailed week-by-week content is developed as the course runs; see Weeks for the current structure of each session.
