- Material
- one artefact each, unsorted
- Operation
- establishing the claim
- Leaves
- a provenance record in the shared corpus
Bring something. It does not have to be good and it does not have to be funny. It has to be an artefact that claimed to say something in a language, and did not.
Before
Photograph it or transcribe it. Write down where you were and what day it was. If you found it online rather than in the world, that is a different provenance, not a worse one, and you write that down instead.
In the bench
Two minutes each, in a fixed order: what it says, where it came from, what you think produced it. Nobody argues about the third part yet. The room’s only job today is to find out whether the first two hold up, and they will not, for about half of us.
Afterwards
Your record goes into the shared corpus with your name on it. Anyone in the course can use it, and anyone in the course can challenge its verification level. That is the point of putting it there.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you have one artefact, photographed or transcribed, that you can show in under a minute
- you can say where it was and when you recorded it
- you can say which verification level it sits at, and why it is not the level above
