A standard is a document that says what a sign must say. A sign is a thing on a wall. This bench is the gap.

Before

Bring a clause. Any published guidance that prescribes wording for public signage will do, in any language, and the more specific it is about individual signs the better.

In the bench

Put the clause and the artefact next to each other and answer three questions in order:

Who was obliged? Who actually produced the sign? What sat between them — a contractor, a sign shop, a procurement form, an email?

The third question is the one that pays. In the Swansea case the entire mechanism is an email nobody read, and no translation system was involved at any point.

Afterwards

The reconstruction is due this Friday. If tonight changed which artefact you want to argue about, change it; the deadline is for the argument, not for the first thing you picked.

The spec

What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
