- Find me at the bench. I answer email slowly and usually with a question.
I built phrase tables for ten years. I could tell you the alignment score of a sentence pair and nothing at all about whether a person reading the output would be misled by it.
Then I moved to the support side and read four years of people telling us what our system had done to them. The complaints were better evidence about the model than any test set we had.
At the bench I am the one asking where a number came from. That is not scepticism about you. It is the only question the artefact can actually answer.
