Week 12 Dailies: The Showcase
Dailies for the finished pilot and the semester's account of itself.
26 May 2027
- Monday lecture: After Five Minutes
- Wednesday Dailies: The Showcase
- Friday due: Dailies Participation (24%), The Showcase (20%)
Bring the finished pilot and your one-page account, alongside everyone else’s. The pilot screens first, straight through, exactly as it screened last week at Fine Cut; the account gets read after, not before, so the room reacts to the pilot itself before checking anyone’s prediction against the page. Notes are filed the same way they’ve been filed all semester: against a specific gate, a specific beat, a specific shot, not a general impression of the season to come. This is the semester’s last Dailies, and it runs like all the others — the room screens cold, and the work speaks before its maker does.
What gets screened#
The finished pilot, straight through, and then the page that predicted how it would be watched. The scale is the shape of a retention curve: where it drops, not what it averages.
The rungs, in the order they screen:
- the first three seconds — whether the hook held before anything else could
- the sharp drop — one identifiable moment, traceable to one decision
- the slow decline — density that flattened out rather than a single mistake
The account that fails here describes a pilot the room did not watch — a prediction written to be right rather than to be checked.
By the end of the hour every pilot has one drop-off somebody can point at, and one decision upstream of it.
