Week 10 Dailies: Batch Review
Dailies for the week's production-queue exercise.
12 May 2027
- Monday lecture: Production, Week One
- Wednesday Dailies: Batch Review
Bring the three finished shots and a note on what the quality gate caught, or would have caught. From this week, Dailies runs at the speed of the queue, not the speed of a crit: the batch screens back to back, and each note is filed against the gate it belongs to — continuity, loudness, or captions — rather than as open commentary on the shot. Roles rotate through the room the way they rotated on the line: whoever ran the continuity audit reports first, then edit and sound, then whoever ran the gate itself. A shot that already failed the gate doesn’t get re-argued in the room. It goes back to the queue, patched or reshot.
What gets screened#
Three finished shots at the speed of the queue, and the gate they were run through. The scale is the gate, which is three checks rather than an impression.
The rungs, in the order they screen:
- continuity — against the model sheet and the master plate
- loudness — a level that neither clips nor disappears beside the rest
- captions — present, accurate, and in sync
The failure shape is a note filed against no gate. “Something is off about the second shot” cannot be actioned and cannot be closed, so it sits in the room forever instead of going back to the queue.
Every shot that failed leaves the room with a named gate and a verdict: patch or reshoot.
