Frequently Asked Questions
Before you email the webmaster, check here first --- odds are somebody else already asked.
What do I actually do with an MP3 file?
Right-click the download link and choose "Save Target As...", pick a folder you'll remember (we recommend a folder literally called "MP3s" on your Desktop), then double-click the file once it's downloaded. If nothing happens, install Winamp or Windows Media Player and try again.
Why is the download so slow?
If you're on dial-up, a 4 MB file can take a while --- go make a sandwich, come back, it'll be done. If you're on broadband and it's still slow, it's probably just our server having a moment. Try again later, or during off-peak hours (late at night works best).
Is this actually legal?
We're not lawyers and this isn't legal advice, but we'd gently suggest you only download things you already own or that the artist has said are free to share. This site is a nostalgia project about how download sites used to look and feel, not an invitation to pirate anything.
Can I request a song?
Yes --- leave the track name and artist in the guestbook and it might show up on New Releases the following Friday. No guarantees, but we do read every entry.
My browser looks weird on this site. Help?
This site was built for a certain era, and it shows --- see the badge in the sidebar. Modern browsers will still render everything fine; it's just not going to win any minimalism awards.
Do you take song submissions from bands?
Sure, email us a description and we'll see if it fits one of the six genres on the Browse Genres page. We can't promise a spot on the Top 40, but everyone starts somewhere.
