Final: Three Shots Ahead Challenge
The capstone: plan and play a short sequence of shots where each one sets up the position for the next, under the same conditions as a real game.
Due: 28 May 2027 · Weight: 35%
The brief#
Given a table layout, play a sequence of shots that clears it in the fewest visits, explaining before each shot how it sets up the next.
This draws together the whole course: reading the table, controlling the cue ball, and planning more than one shot ahead.
What you submit#
Demonstrated live at the table, with a short stated plan before play and a brief explanation of the reasoning afterwards.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- a shot plan is stated before play begins, covering at least three shots
- position for the next shot is visibly considered, not just the current pot, drawing on point, zone or route positioning as appropriate
- at least one attack, safety or recovery decision is made and explained during the run
- the student can explain a decision when asked
How it is marked
The challenge is judged as a whole against the brief, with particular attention to whether each shot visibly sets up the one after it, and whether the student can explain the plan they were playing to.
