The comprehensive plan, presented and defended end to end to a full jury. Twelve weeks of district decisions, argued as one position.
24 May 2027
The clock#
The capstone brief is the sole authority for the artefact. Its jury copy of the memo is due Friday 21 May at 12:00 for both chairs to pre-read. The artefact is due Monday at 12:00. Hang from 12:15, draw the running order at 12:50, begin the jury at 13:00 and remain for the joint close, which runs from 15:24 through 16:00.
Each defence is fifteen minutes, not twenty, and the two rooms start at 13:00, not 14:00. Slots are eighteen minutes apart: fifteen are yours and three are changeover, because eight semester-deep saves have to load in turn on the one presenting machine in each room, and a defence that begins late because the previous file was still loading would otherwise lose that time out of its own fifteen. Eight slots at eighteen minutes run 13:00 to 15:24, leaving the rest of the hour for the joint close. A missed jury is marked from the memo and boards without a live defence.
Hanging and the running order#
Eight students hang in Studio 2.14 and eight in Studio 2.16, all in roster order. The draw at 12:50 sets presentation order and does not rearrange either wall. Test the one presenting machine in each room and open every save during the hang. A save that does not load is defended from the lodged artefact.
Marisol Quaye chairs 2.14 with Idris Fenn sitting. Tobias Wren chairs 2.16 with Nadia Ilkhom sitting. Sunniva Marek circulates between both rooms as Visiting Critic and chairs neither. Chairs stay in their rooms; both have already read all sixteen memos against one calibrated mark sheet.
Your fifteen minutes#
The protocol is five minutes uninterrupted, clarifying questions, critique, then the presenter speaks last. The five-minute walk-through has five moves:
- Full district, roads only: name the site and the constraint that set the plan — 40 seconds.
- Full district, land value: say what the plan did and where it landed — 60 seconds.
- Corridor at neighbourhood scale: state the claim and its grounds — 60 seconds.
- One block at street level: say what it is like to stand there — 60 seconds.
- Full district, metric readouts: name the trade — 60 seconds.
The five moves total 280 seconds, leaving 20 seconds for view changes. Do not cut the street-level move. It is the only minute not delivered by a panel. A metric card is permitted; spatial evidence on the boards is required.
The overlays, in order#
Open land value first: who captured the uplift? Open public transport routes and ridership second: what happens at the terminus? Open service coverage by district third: who sits outside the radii? Open budget fourth: in which year does the surplus end? Open water, ground pollution and fire hazard last: what happens at Ombersley Flats?
All five questions get asked. The named overlays, corridor budget column, unfunded list and Week 10 exposure statement on the boards must support what the walk-through says.
What the jury asks#
The jury asks which of fiscal performance, mobility performance and livability you traded, and where that choice is spatially visible. It will set the district mean land value of 40 against a core at 66 and Ombersley at 18 (reference-scenario figures; cite your own save’s readings where they differ). It will ask whether the ₡186,000 reserve (reference-scenario) is held for year-fifteen stability or spent on the forecast Kerrow cross-town link raised in Week 8’s budget session, and which mobility gap the choice accepts.
The last question has two halves. Does the district hold under Week 10’s fire
load case? Answer with d3 against recovered, not with an account of a flood.
What could the model not show? Answer from the Week 11 appendix, curve and
Pelling Cross trace. Transit share and walk share keep separate observation
denominators and are never added. The reserve/link result is a worksheet
forecast, not a live UI field.
Before you stand up#
Open <student ID>-w11 and continue it as <student ID>-w12. Pause it at
08:00 and full district extent. Pre-check the views.
Keep the memo open with the omissions appendix at the front. Write the claim,
numeric qualifier and rebuttal where you can see them; use a metric card if it
helps. Rehearse the reserve position finalized before Friday 21 May 12:00, and
time the five moves aloud once. An undecided plan becomes an inventory at the
lectern.
The spec
The session contract: what must be ready, recorded or defended. Each line is written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- The A3 brief is the sole authority for memo, appendix, boards, screenshots, save and clocks; this session is the jury.
- Your boards are hung in roster order before 12:50; the presentation order is drawn at 12:50 and does not rearrange the wall.
- A metric card is permitted; spatial planning evidence on the boards is required, and oral polish without it does not carry the mark.
- Transit share and walk share keep separate observation denominators and are not added; the reserve-versus-link forecast is a worksheet.
- The last question of your slot is the fourth question: the Week 10 fire load case (`d3` against `recovered`) and what the model could not show.
