Build the district's parks, plazas and street-level public space. Assessed pin-up, judged on what the public realm does rather than how it renders.
3 May 2027
Before you come#
Open <student ID>-w08 and build forward from it — this session has no issued
checkpoint to substitute for your own save. Bring your corridor budget column
and signed unfunded list from last week.
The deadline and the wall#
The artefact is due at 12:00. Hang in roster order from 13:00; the wall closes at 13:25 and the jury begins at 14:00. This is a jury, not three hours in which to finish the work.
If the artefact was uploaded on time but is not printed, place its digital equivalent on the reserved display in the normal roster bay. If it missed noon, the policies page sets the late consequence, but the defence still runs at 14:00. If you are absent, the plan is marked from the memo alone. Prints that arrive after the hang closes have no bay, so be on the wall at 13:00.
What is on the wall#
Use the display set named by the assessment brief. Caption the simulation views with in-game day and time. The 19:00 street-level observation also names the issued fine-weather state, camera, polygon and one-minute count. A quiet plaza is a finding; do not replace it with a better screenshot.
Pin the memo rather than leaving it on a laptop. Put the signed unfunded list last, with its Week 8 lines intact. Every proposed public space carries a monthly figure funded from your corridor budget sheet column. The evidence must allow a reader to find the public-realm claim, its cost and what remained unfunded without its author explaining the layout.
How the jury runs#
From 13:25, the cohort and jurors read the whole wall in silence for twenty minutes. Do not stand beside your own sheets. At 14:00 the jury walks the first eight plans in roster order, breaks for ten minutes, then walks the second eight. Each plan has four minutes, with changeover inside the clock: ninety seconds for one claim and the remainder for questions.
After the second eight, Tobias Wren and Sunniva Marek take five minutes to choose three plans they disagree about — drawn from all sixteen, which is why the choice happens at the end and not in the mid-afternoon break. Those three return for six minutes each before the whole room. Marek then gives fifteen uninterrupted minutes to the wall as a whole. The visiting critic has not seen the Week 8 charrette or the explanations that made the work seem settled at the desk. That distance is the point of their place in the room.
The question#
Did the district improve because you designed something, or because you spent money? Show the division.
The Ockley Green plaza costs ₡2,200/month and the reference worksheet associates four happiness points with it: ₡2,200 ÷ 4 = ₡550 per attributed point. Farrant Row’s street trees cost ₡340/month and are associated with three: ₡340 ÷ 3 ≈ ₡113 per attributed point. Plaza, trees, paths and maintenance changed together, so neither ratio is an isolated causal return. Happiness rose nine points; the two unattributed points also need an account.
The harder question sits on the last sheet. The ₡5,100/month treatment increment remains funded and protected, as Week 8 requires. To add ₡2,540/month of public realm, identify an additional eligible saving or evidenced surplus in your corridor column. The jury asks which discretionary service or future project pays for that choice; utilities cannot be silently deferred.
What you take away#
Keep <student ID>-w09 exactly as submitted for the Week 10 load case. Take
the wall home for the final jury, and leave with the 08:00 travel-time reading
(11.1 minutes, the continued refill from Week 6’s widening), separate 19:00
count, cost-per-point column and updated unfunded list. Write what the
next ₡500/month would buy and what it would return per point. Do not repair the
submitted district after the crit.
The spec
The session contract: what must be ready, recorded or defended. Each line is written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- Your screenshots and defence memo are uploaded by 12:00 and your printed set is on the wall before the hang closes at 13:25.
- Every public space on your wall carries a monthly upkeep figure funded from your column of the corridor budget sheet.
- Your signed unfunded list is pinned as the last sheet of your memo, with the Week 8 lines still on it.
- You can state the cost per attributed happiness point in the reference worksheet and explain why simultaneous interventions make it an association rather than a causal return.
- You bring one pedestrian count taken at 19:00 using the issued weather state, camera, polygon and one-minute observation window.
