Week 3 Workshop: Autopsy rehearsal

A small, low-stakes run of the exact format Jump Autopsy asks for, so the first time you do this for real isn't also the first time you've ever done it.

10 March 2027

Preparation

Read the week 3 lecture and open the Jump Lab once beforehand. Pick two presets you’re curious about — they don’t have to be the ones the assessment uses.

Activity

  1. Choose two presets. Run three immediate-mode trials of each, logging height, displacement and airtime from the Jump Lab’s trial log rather than transcribing by hand.
  2. Write the two-line method statement from the lecture task, then swap it — not your table — with a partner. Each of you runs the other’s method statement against your own copy of the Jump Lab and compares your result to their table.
  3. As a group: report one method statement that turned out to be missing something (a mode, a trial count, which preset) once someone else tried to follow it literally. This is the failure mode Jump Autopsy is graded against, and it’s much cheaper to hit here than in a submission.

Output

Your two-jump table, method statement and the one-sentence comparison from the spec above, handed to your tutor at the end of the session.

Criteria

Not marked, but checked for the same thing Jump Autopsy checks: can your method statement be followed by someone who wasn’t in the room. If your partner’s attempt to reproduce your table landed outside your own three-trial spread, find out why before the assessment is due Friday.

The spec

What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
