After this lesson
- Identify the scope of a fee statement before applying it.
- Distinguish a regulator's allegations, a proposed settlement and the company's response.
Case scope. US individual-plan terms and a US enforcement case. These materials do not establish a worldwide fee or refund rule.
Put the plan type at the top of the page
For the US annual plan paid monthly, Adobe’s linked terms describe an early-termination charge after the initial 14-day period: 50% of the remaining contract balance. That statement belongs to the named plan and region. It is not a fee formula for every reader of this course.
Our separate practice card uses an explicitly fictional rule. Read it literally, state the remaining commitment, and show your calculation. Keep a possible future cancellation cost separate from money already paid.
Read the dispute with dates attached
On 13 March 2026 the US Department of Justice announced a proposed stipulated order concerning Adobe’s disclosure and cancellation practices. Adobe’s response announced a settlement agreement while disputing the allegations and denying wrongdoing. Read both sources before describing the case.
The useful question
A customer says, “I pay monthly, so why would cancelling cost anything?” Write a plain-language answer that starts with the commitment shown on their plan. Then list the facts you still need: purchase channel, region, plan type, start date and the account’s cancellation quote.
The workshop asks you to annotate evidence and uncertainty. It does not ask you to predict a refund or repeat an unverified internet workaround.
