The first graded work — combine a digitizing technique with the Programming I on-ramp
Due: 19 March 2027 · Weight: 20%
The brief#
Take something physical, get it into the machine, and make the machine do something with it that wasn’t possible before it was digitized.
Combine one technique from Digitizing Media I (scanning, photogrammetry or projection mapping) with one idea from Programming I: Creative Coding Foundations. The combination is the point — a scan sitting next to a sketch you made separately doesn’t answer the brief; a scan that drives the sketch, or a sketch that changes how the scan is displayed, does.
This is the first place your studio pairing shows up in submitted work. If your pair leaned on each other across the art/code gap, that’s expected — name who did what.
What you submit#
A video under two minutes showing the piece running, plus the working files (sketch, scan or capture data, and anything else needed to reproduce it). The video is what gets shown at the crit; the files are what a marker can check against it.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- submitted by the deadline, as a short video (under two minutes) plus the working files
- names which digitizing technique and which Programming I idea it combines
- the work is yours and your studio pair's, with each person's contribution named and any other assistance declared
