Crossing 3's fieldwork — with a team assigned for this Crossing, put something out in the hallway bigger than anything you've tried solo
Crossings 1 and 2 both needed you standing right there, alone, one conversation at a time. Crossing 3 hands you a team, assigned for these two weeks, and asks a different question: what happens if the thing you build works when no single one of you is the one initiating it.
The brief#
With your assigned team, set up something in the hallway bigger than anything any of you has tried solo — then see who stops.
Teams are five, assigned for the Crossing rather than chosen. Bigger doesn’t mean flashier — it means more exposure and more that could go sideways: a table that has to stay staffed over a lunch break, a small event that needs every teammate to actually show up for it to work, a sign that has to do the inviting when none of you can be there in person. What’s supposed to make it bigger is the team behind it, not one of you quietly doing twice the work.
What you carry into next week#
Not a polished pitch — the team’s real account of what got built, what showed up instead of what you’d planned for, and what running it together rather than solo changed. The Hallway Showcase is the session where the team presents it; Midsemester Checkpoint is what that presentation has to contain and how it’s marked — on the stall as a whole, not on any one teammate’s slice of it.
One thing that isn’t shared: the clip. You each need your own third-of-five for Legacy, though there’s nothing stopping all of you filming the same five minutes of the stall from five different phones.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- your team, assigned for this Crossing, set up something bigger in scale than an earlier solo Crossing — more people, more time invested, more that could go wrong
- it can run without any one teammate standing right next to it the whole time
- a stranger could walk up to it without any of you starting the conversation first
- each of you came away with a clip of the stall running — the third of your five
