Midsemester Checkpoint
Crossing 3 is the biggest bet of the first half — Set Up Shop, run by a team assigned for the Crossing — and the Hallway Showcase is where the team presents it, weighted for the scale of what got built together
Crossing 3 · Due: 4 September 2026 · Weight: 25%
Crossing 3 is the biggest undertaking of the first half: a team, a stall, and more that can go wrong than in any solo Crossing before it. The Hallway Showcase is where that scale earns its own weight, separate from the ordinary participation grade every Crossing gets. This page is what the team has to present there, and what it’s marked on.
The brief#
With your assigned team, set up something in the hallway bigger than anything any of you has tried solo, then present what actually happened at the Showcase.
What counts as bigger, and what the stall has to survive without you, is set out in Set Up Shop. This page is about what you then say about it. The Showcase presentation isn’t a recap of the week’s live reports — it’s the team’s fuller account, together, of what you built for and what actually showed up instead.
What you present#
A short presentation at the Hallway Showcase, given by the team as one account, covering what was set up, why it was scaled the way it was, and what came of it — good and bad. No separate written submission; the Showcase presentation is the checkpoint, marked on the stall as a whole rather than on any one teammate’s part in it. Missing the slot itself is covered by Policies — there’s no presenting it late.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- the team presents the stall as one account, not five individual slices of it
- the stall is weighed against what one of you managed solo in an earlier Crossing, not against the other teams
- the account covers what was set up, why it was scaled that way, and what actually happened, including what didn't go to plan
- it matches what the team reported living through it, not a tidied-up version for a bigger audience
How it is marked
Judged on the ambition and execution of what the team set up, as one stall rather than five individual slices of it — whether it's genuinely bigger in scope than an earlier solo Crossing rather than a repeat at the same scale, and whether the Showcase account matches what the team actually reported living through it.
