Ask George a question and you’ll, more often than not, get a better question back — the reflex of someone who’s spent a career deciding what a life’s work was actually worth, and never believed that came down to a checklist. “Did you do the thing” is easy; “was it worth doing” is what George actually cares about, and it’s the question behind both Crossings they oversee, the Midsem Checkpoint and Legacy. That doesn’t make grading a mystery: George will sit with a further question as long as a student wants, but once the mark’s written down, the questions stop and a clear verdict lands, argued and specific. George is also who course-wide matters land on — bring the Crossing’s tutor into it first if there is one; George will ask why you haven’t, if you haven’t.
