Tutorials
Two hours a week in which your design changes. You arrive with a sized subsystem and leave with it altered, corrected or thrown out.
Tutorials are working sessions rather than revision. Each one has an activity with an output, and that output feeds the next week — so a tutorial missed is a gap in the design rather than a set of notes to catch up on. Theweekly map lists what each one produces.
The spec on each page is the contract: every line is written so that you can tell whether you have met it without asking anyone. Bring your site sheet to all twelve.
Quizzes are sat on paper at the start of the tutorial in weeks 3, 5, 8, 10 and 12.
Building your client evidence workbook
The first tutorial — choose one of the five client homes, build the four-sheet workbook every later week writes into, and fill one row of it properly
Week 1 · 25 February 2027
The irrigation demand curve
Week 2 tutorial — turn twelve rows of climate normals into a monthly irrigation demand curve, and decide on the numbers how much ground you will actually plant
Week 2 · 4 March 2027
Substrate in, substrate out
Week 3 tutorial — size a fruiting operation from the substrate you actually have, and account for the five kilograms that leave for every kilogram picked
Week 3 · 11 March 2027
Sizing the insect unit against a scrap stream
Week 4 tutorial — work out how much larval biomass your household's waste can actually make, and draw the import arrow that most diagrams leave out
Week 4 · 18 March 2027
Species, months and the approval you need
Week 5 tutorial — size the fish and bed pair from the feed-rate ratio, then find out what your client's jurisdiction actually requires before keeping anything
Week 5 · 25 March 2027
Sizing preservation, then assembling Assignment 1
Week 6 tutorial — size the store that moves the glut into the trough, then turn five weeks of unknowns into the measurement register Assignment 1 is built from
Week 6 · 15 April 2027
The supply curve, and submitting Assignment 1
Week 7 tutorial — compute monthly roof yield from the enHealth formula, lay it against week 2's demand, and do the last pass on the measurement programme
Week 7 · 22 April 2027
Drawing the treatment train
Week 8 tutorial — assemble a barrier sequence against your home's actual measured water quality, put a sourced log reduction on each barrier, and cost the running
Week 8 · 29 April 2027
Running the tank balance, then breaking it
Week 9 tutorial — size storage on a monthly balance, find where the curve saturates, then re-run the whole thing against the synthetic dry year
Week 9 · 6 May 2027
Closing the mass balance
Week 10 tutorial — route every organic stream to a destination and prove, in dry matter, that nothing has quietly disappeared
Week 10 · 13 May 2027
Where the nitrogen goes, and choosing between the options
Week 11 tutorial — size excreta and greywater to your site's band, find a destination for the nitrogen surplus, then build the options grid Assignment 2 turns on
Week 11 · 20 May 2027
Assembly, and the failure you cannot design away
Week 12 tutorial — run the five whole-system checks on your recommended option, compare across the five homes, and leave with the proposal skeleton
Week 12 · 27 May 2027
