Nap Labs

The twelve-week teaching schedule: what happens in each nap lab, what to prepare, and what leaves the room.

A Nap Lab is where the week's claim gets tested on you rather than discussed. Most weeks that means napping under observation and measuring what it did, using the two instruments taught in the first lab: a Karolinska reading you take on yourself, and a reaction-time median that routinely disagrees with it. Where those two disagree is usually the week's real material.

Finding your dip

The first Nap Lab — you learn the two instruments this course measures everything with, and use them to locate your own afternoon trough

Week 1 · 22 February 2027

Napping on the clock

The first nap of the course — you nap under observation, measure yourself before and after, and find out whether the dead zone is real on you

Week 2 · 1 March 2027

The coffee nap, tested on you

A within-subject comparison — plain nap against coffee nap — and a first encounter with how easily an experiment on yourself can fool you

Week 3 · 8 March 2027

It is not the sandwich

A Nap Lab that tests the lunch explanation directly, and checks your week 1 prediction against two weeks of your own recorded data

Week 4 · 15 March 2027

Reading the factory clock

A document Nap Lab — factory rules, shift timetables and a modern staff handbook, read for what each one assumes about rest

Week 5 · 22 March 2027

Three regimes

The last Nap Lab before the break — the three cultural regimes set against each other, and your case study plan tested by someone who is not you

Week 6 · 29 March 2027

Who gets to sleep

A Nap Lab on a real institution — map where rest is actually possible in a workplace you know, and who it is possible for

Week 7 · 19 April 2027

The pod and the policy

A costing Nap Lab — price a nap pod installation against a schedule change for the same workplace, and find out which one you can actually defend

Week 8 · 26 April 2027

Strongest claim, least access

A Nap Lab that tests week 7's argument against three populations, and turns the aviation case into something you can use

Week 9 · 3 May 2027

The device and the night

A Nap Lab comparing what your tracker said against what you experienced, and against the crude instruments this course has used all semester

Week 10 · 10 May 2027

Before or after

A learning-and-recall Nap Lab run on the room, and a close reading of the study everyone cites for it

Week 11 · 17 May 2027

Defend the policy

The final session — you present your nap policy and it is argued against by someone playing the person who has to approve it

Week 12 · 24 May 2027
