Assessments & Grading Structure
Three assessments worth 100 marks in total, each due the week after its lectures.
This course requires three assessment items, totaling 100 marks. Each piece is designed to evaluate a distinct component of our economic methodology, with deadlines deliberately scheduled for the week immediately following the relevant theoretical lectures.
- The WET Policy Brief tests your ability to articulate the mechanics of volume-agnostic taxation.
- The Data Scraping Exercise evaluates your technical capacity to construct a retail dataset and accurately compute the ABV-to-dollar index across every compiled SKU.
- The Event Portfolio serves as the capstone. It asks you to mathematically define aninventory that is fundamentally optimal, not merely cheap, while clearly articulating the logistics of that optimization.
Every assignment brief includes a spec: the definitive list of criteria your marker will check. Read it before you begin your draft, and read it again before you submit. This list does not change, and it is deliberately the only place where technical requirements and deliverables are stated. Assumptions made outside the scope of the spec will not be graded.
WET Policy Brief
An academic policy brief deconstructing how the Wine Equalisation Tax structurally incentivizes the production of high-volume, low-cost cask wine.
Due 5 April 2027 · Weight: 30%
Retail Data Extraction Exercise
Extraction and analysis of retail inventory data to compute baseline ABV-to-dollar efficiencies across 150+ SKUs.
Due 26 April 2027 · Weight: 30%
The 50-Person Event Portfolio
The capstone synthesis: design and mathematically defend a hyper-efficient beverage inventory for a 50-person cohort, factoring in tax loopholes and physical logistics.
Due 17 May 2027 · Weight: 40%
