Assessment
Every piece of graded work in the course, what it is worth, and when it is due.
Five pieces of assessed work, totalling 100%. The eleven labs are one entry at 20%, because they are one commitment repeated weekly rather than eleven separate pieces of work — and your best ten of the eleven are what count.
The last three are one project in three parts, worth 55% between them: you build the instrument, you race it, and then you defend the calls you made with it. They are submitted on three dates and marked separately, but they are the same piece of work meeting three different tests.
Your finishing position in the race is worth nothing. It is marked on conduct alone: the agreement between each call you made and what your own instrument was telling you at that second. Each page below says what is submitted and how it is marked.
Course-wide rules — late work and extensions, AI use and collaboration — are on the policies page. Each brief below assumes them rather than repeating them.
Assignment 1: the audit
The audit — a recommendation the team bought, tested against the race it was written for and the rival who responds to it
The labs
Eleven labs across weeks 2 to 12, each one finished in the room, with the best ten counting
Final project: the instrument
The semester's artefact — your own race simulator and the wall you designed for it, submitted with the limits you are willing to declare
Final project: the race
One live race in the exam period, the cohort as the grid, on a draw everybody shares — marked on conduct and not on where you finish
Final project: the defence
Written knowing the result — the calls justified against the distribution they faced rather than the result they got
