Week 11 Studio: Public crit
The prototype and crit assessment, defended live in front of a panel who only know the redesign proposal
10 May 2027
Before the session#
Bring the finished prototype and the one-page test script. This is the session the prototype and crit assessment is due in.
In the session#
The panel is deliberately made up of people who only read the redesign proposal, not the thinking behind it since — the same gap between a document and the person meeting it cold that the real door will face. Each prototype is handed to someone who hasn’t touched it before; if they need you to narrate what to do, that’s noted as a finding, not smoothed over.
Afterwards#
The prototype and crit is marked from this session, worth 25% of the course.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- a person who did not build your prototype operates it without being coached through it live
- your crit defence is under five minutes, leaving time for questions
- you can name the one thing about your redesign this prototype does not yet prove
