Week 10 Workshop: Fair fight
Practicing the single-variable A/B comparison the final assessment requires, and noticing what happens when you break the rule on purpose.
28 April 2027
Preparation#
Complete the week 10 lecture task before this session.
Activity#
- Record a configuration A. Run a clean single-variable B comparison, changing exactly one parameter, and report both sides’ height, displacement and airtime.
- Now deliberately break the rule: from the same A, change two parameters at once for a second B and replay it. Try to say which of the two changes caused the difference you see — notice that you can’t, honestly.
- Discuss: your final assessment asks for one single-variable comparison. Why would a marker reject the two-variable version from step 2 even if its result looked more dramatic?
Output#
Both comparisons’ results and the one-sentence usability judgement from the spec above.
Criteria#
Not marked. Your tutor will check that the single-variable comparison in step 1 changed exactly one parameter from A — this is the exact standard One Body, Three Personalities applies to its required A/B comparison.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- one A/B comparison changing exactly one parameter, with both resulting metrics reported
- one A/B comparison changing two parameters at once, with a note on why its result can't be attributed to either alone
- one sentence on which of the two comparisons above would be usable evidence in a report
