Week 9 Workshop: Sound off
A structured comparison of the Jump Lab with and without sound, checking that nothing about a trial's outcome is audio-only.
21 April 2027
Preparation#
Complete the week 9 lecture task before this session.
Activity#
- Without telling your partner whether sound will be on, have them run a trial muted and write their takeoff/landing/outcome description before any sound plays.
- Replay the same input pattern with sound on and compare against their written description. Note any mismatch.
- Swap roles, then as a pair try to find the mute control without being told where it is. Time how long it took and note anything confusing about it.
Output#
The muted-trial description, its sound-on comparison, and the mute-control findability note from step 3.
Criteria#
Not marked. Your tutor will check that the muted description alone was sufficient to reconstruct the trial’s outcome — a description that had to guess is evidence of an audio-only information leak, which this course’s sound rules are designed to prevent.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- a muted-trial description (takeoff moment, landing moment, outcome) written before unmuting
- the same trial's sound-on confirmation, with any mismatch noted
- one sentence on whether the mute control was easy to find and operate without instruction
