Does somebody on their phone count as waiting

Half my queue is not looking at the queue. They are on their phones and they seem fine about it. Are they waiting the same amount as somebody staring at the counter?

Standing at the bank counter on Tuesday. Eleven people in line, eight of them on phones, and none of them looked annoyed.

The person at the front with no phone looked furious.

If waiting is a cost, these people are not paying the same one, and my stopwatch cannot tell the difference. Does the course have a way to record that, or is it just seconds and nothing else?

  1. Marked as the answer

They are waiting the same number of seconds and not the same amount. Week 5 is where that split opens up and week 9 is where it gets a name. For now, record the seconds, and record separately what people were doing with them. Do not merge those two columns, because the moment you do you have made a judgement you cannot take back out.

  2. I started a column called occupied and it has already changed what I think my site is like. Nobody at the post office is on their phone. Everybody at the coffee cart is.
