How extensions work in this course, and the form that submits the request. Up to five days, before the deadline, reason not documented.
Please ask before the deadline if you possibly can. Anything up to five days is granted by the convenor over email, you do not have to document your reason, and you will normally get an answer the same day. We would much rather you asked early than sat on it.
Three things worth knowing before you ask#
Asking early is free and asking late is not. An extension agreed before the deadline costs you absolutely nothing. That very same request, sent two days afterwards, has already started accruing a penalty on most pieces, and on one piece it is simply too late to help you. This is the one bit of the policy worth remembering.
A third request in one semester is still usually yes. Tessa will also ask whether the course is the problem, which is a real question rather than a warning, and the answer has changed the course twice.
More than five days is a different process. The convenor cannot grant it by email. Send the request anyway and you will be pointed at the university’s standard form rather than left to find it.
What lateness costs on each piece#
| Piece | Due | Late penalty | Hard stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Measured Queue | 26 Mar | 5% of available marks per day | 7 days, then zero |
| Whose Time It Was | 30 Apr | 5% of available marks per day | 7 days, then zero |
| The Queue Journal | 21 May | Not accepted late | The deadline |
| This piece is not accepted late, because entries written after the deadline cannot be evidence of a weekly habit. Request an extension before the deadline instead. | |||
| The Redesign | 28 May | Mixed, see the note | The session it happens in |
| The written proposal takes the ordinary per-day penalty. The defence happens in the week 12 field session and cannot be submitted late, so if you cannot attend, request an extension rather than a late submission. | |||

What happens after you submit#
You get a decision the same day, usually within a couple of hours during the working week. If it is a yes, the new date is in the reply and the reply is the record, so keep it.
If nothing has arrived within one working day, submit it again rather than waiting. An unanswered request is an invisible queue of exactly the kind week 7 is about, and the person at the front of one cannot tell whether it is moving.
The full rules, including what late work costs and how access adjustments work, are on the policies page.
