Week 12 Stand-up: Now you're the manager
The last stand-up hands you the other side of the table. You bring a review system you designed, and the rest of the room spends the session trying to beat it.
27 May 2027
This week's trickThere isn't one. You write the rubric now.
Who paysWhichever side of your trade-off you chose to let pay.
Every trick in this course was a design flaw with a person standing in it. This week you are the designer.
Bring#
Your Assessment 4 design, submitted on Monday: a review system for the team whose packets you argued over last week, with its three answers on the front page. What replaces calibration. How a rating is contested. Who pays. Also bring your brag document from week 4, which by now runs to nine weeks and is the last thing this course asks you to look at.
The trick#
There is no trick this week. You are writing the rubric, and the room has spent eleven weeks learning how to read one.
What happens#
Designs are pinned around the room, grouped by calibration room, and you attack the designs of the people you sat with last week, because they know where every packet’s trick was and so do you. You spend the first half attacking other people’s: for each one, name the trick from this course that beats it, or concede that you cannot find one, then check the front page. A design with no answer on the rater has reopened week 1. A design with no way to contest a rating has reopened week 11. You spend the second half at your own design, reading what was pinned to it. Then the last twenty minutes of the course: each person says who pays under their design, out loud, and what the design bought with that. A design that claims nobody pays is the one everybody beat.
How you know it worked#
Your design survived at least one trick it was aimed at and lost to at least one it was not, and you can say which and why, and who pays for the version you would ship. Submit the written justification by Friday. That is the course.
The spec
Before you leave the room. Each line is something you can check yourself.
- your review design for Assessment 4 was submitted on Monday
- your design's front page says what replaces calibration, how a rating is contested, and who pays
- you have attacked at least two other designs with a named trick from this course
- you have written down the trade-off your own design chose, and what it gave up
