Stand-up attendance

One mark per stand-up for being in the room when it starts with what the page asked you to bring. Your best ten of twelve count.

Marked: at every stand-up, weeks 1 to 12 · Weight: 10%

The brief

Be in the room when it starts. Bring the thing.

Every stand-up page has a section called Bring. It is short and specific: a rubric, an org chart, a month of messages, a launch email, the design you posted on Monday. The stand-up cannot run without it, and neither can you. So the mark is for two things and only two things: you were there when the tutor started, and you had the item.

How the mark is counted

One mark per stand-up. Half for presence, half for the item. Twelve stand-ups, best ten count, so two misses cost you nothing and you do not need to explain them. Ten marks scale to ten percent of the course. Arriving after the start with the item is half a mark; arriving on time without it is half a mark; the tutor does not negotiate either.

If you will miss more than two, that is an extension, and the policies page says how easy those are to get.

What this mark is

Week 8 will tell you that presence is a proxy, that managers rate it without knowing they do, and that it costs whoever cannot be in the room. All of that is true of this mark. The course chose it anyway, because a stand-up is a thing done in a room with other people, and the forum cannot hold it. The best-ten rule is the course’s answer to who pays, and it is a partial one. Say so in week 8, when the tutor asks.

There is nothing to hand in. The tutor keeps the sheet.

The spec

The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
