Prototype
What did I just look at?
Photograph the thing that stopped you, answer a question or two, and narrow it down to what it probably was โ with the facts worth knowing and where to find it again.
What this actually does
It reads the dominant colours out of your photo and compares them against the colours each species in this prototype is expected to show, then narrows the field by what you tell it about the plant’s shape. It is not a trained classifier, it has eight species in it rather than the collection’s 4,300, and it will be wrong. Treat the result as a shortlist to check, not an identification.
Your photo never leaves your device โ the analysis runs in the browser and nothing is uploaded. To have a plant identified properly, take it to the Visitor Centre or use the Gardens’ own botanical information resources.
Add a photo
Take one now, or drag an image in. A close, well-lit shot of the flower or leaf works far better than a whole shrub against the sky.
What the matcher read
Most likely, in order
Ranked by how much of your photo’s colour falls where each species’ colour is expected, after your answers rule species out.
