Refer someone to CRS
This page is for referring a refugee or asylum seeker you know to Canberra Refugee Support — the process below is for someone making a referral on another person's behalf.
-
Check
CRS doesn't apply strict eligibility criteria, but two groups are given priority: asylum seekers on temporary visas who are ineligible for much government assistance, and refugees who have recently arrived and are facing significant settlement challenges. High-need cases outside these groups aren't ruled out where CRS has the capacity.

Email
Email info@canberrarefugee.org.au with as much of the following as you can — not all of it is required: name, age, family composition, suburb, country of origin, visa type, contact details, language spoken at home, English level, time in Australia or Canberra, and the type of assistance needed.
-
What happens next
- A CRS volunteer support coordinator will make contact.
- A coordinator meets the person you've referred, to explain what CRS offers, learn their needs, and check they want to go ahead.
- The referral goes to the CRS committee for confirmation.
- Once confirmed, CRS finds volunteers from its membership, briefs them, and introduces them.
