About CRS

How Canberra Refugee Support's good neighbour model works, and who's behind it.

The good neighbour model

CRS matches small teams of volunteers with asylum seekers and refugees who are registered with the organisation. Each team offers longer-term social support, shaped around what the family needs and what the volunteers can offer.

Who we are

CRS is run entirely by volunteers, with no office and no paid staff. It's a registered charity with the ACNC, so donations are tax deductible, and it receives no government program funding — membership fees cover running costs, so donations go directly to the people CRS supports.

Education Awards

Each year during Refugee Week, a small volunteer team presents Education Awards — scholarships for asylum seeker and refugee children and adults, nominated by partner organisations.

Partner organisations

CRS works alongside Every Chance, The Laptop Initiative, Hellenic Club of Canberra, St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), MARSS, Companion House, ACT Government Community Services, and St John the Apostle Kippax.
