Guestbook and parking ranks Six messages and this week's full leaderboard

Two things on this page: six messages friends left on my space, and the complete income leaderboard for the week. Both are original fiction — this site has no backend and no JavaScript, so not one of these messages was ever actually submitted.

On visiting, returning visits, and friends' spaces

There was an etiquette to this, unwritten, and everybody knew it. The three rules I remember most clearly:

  • If you visit, leave a footprint. Looking without posting still showed up in the visitor log, and counted as lurking. Leaving even a content-free "passing by" completed the social action.
  • A message obliges a return visit. Someone came by, so you went back. Returning a visit was the cheapest way to maintain a friendship, and at the time it was how you judged whether someone was thoughtful.
  • Taking a space is one thing; saying so is another. If you took someone's space in the game, you generally owed them a joke in the guestbook. Taking the space is the act; the message is the explanation. Without the second half, the joke turns into friction.

A friend's parking space is where that etiquette concentrates: it is a game mechanic and a social signal at once. Parking at someone's place announces that you thought of them today. There is more on this in the memory archive.

Your Bay A was sitting empty so I helped myself. Don't start swearing when you wake up — go and look at who's top of the leaderboard first.

There's a reason the three-wheeler lives in Bay B: it's closest to the exit. If you really want it, be here before eight tomorrow.

Did you change the colours on the convertible? It looks good. I've changed my background too — remember to come and visit~

Pulling an all-nighter here anyway, so I'm guarding your space. Nobody's getting in before dawn. I'll take half the earnings.

Do NOT park in Bay C. I got ticketed twice there last week. The warden really does come. Learn from my suffering.

Just added you, just visited, leaving a footprint. Your garage is tidier than our form teacher's desk.

Static display only — nothing can be submitted. What follows is the shape of a compose box, here to reproduce the interface of the time. The fields are disabled, there is no submit button, and no backend receives anything. Its only purpose is to make this page look like 2010.

Both fields carry the disabled attribute, so they stay out of the keyboard tab order and screen readers announce them as unavailable.
