Sir Reginald Fluffington III

~*~ a home page for a very good cat ~*~

Cool links and awards

A note from now. Everything else on this site speaks from November 1998. This paragraph does not. Every outbound address on this page is dead — the webring closed, the free hosts shut down and took their subdirectories with them, and the people are unfindable. The addresses are kept below as plain text rather than as links, because a link that goes nowhere is worse than an address you can read. This is what the forgotten web actually looks like from the inside: not a style, an absence.

Awards this page has won

Two, and I am aware that is not many, but one of them was judged by a person rather than given out automatically and I have printed that one and put it on the fridge.

  • Cutest Cat Site of 1998, a rosette award badge
  • Aussie Pet Pages Webring member button
  • Best viewed at 800 by 600
  • One hundred per cent hand-coded HTML

Cutest Cat Site of 1998, October

Awarded by a woman in Bendigo who ran a monthly judging out of a page of her own. She sent a paragraph explaining her decision, which mentioned the caption about the microwave box specifically. I have kept the email.

Not an award. I know it is not an award. I put it on because everybody had one and the page looked bare without it, and I have left it there because taking it off now would be revisionist.

The Aussie Pet Pages Webring

This page was site 23 of 41 in the Aussie Pet Pages Webring, which linked together every Australian home page about a pet that its keeper could find. You joined by emailing the person who maintained it, and he sent you back a snippet of HTML and a number. The previous site was a page about a cockatiel in Geelong and the next one was three budgerigars in Hobart.

The ring is how nearly everybody found this page. It closed in 2001, and with it went the only index of the other forty.

Cool links

These were my favourite places on the web. Addresses are given as they were; none of them resolve.

Outbound links as they stood on 14 November 1998
Site Address in 1998 Why I liked it
Bruce's Cockatiel Page www.geocities.com/Heartland/4102/ Previous site in the ring. Bruce wrote up his bird's vocabulary as a numbered list and it is the reason this site has one too.
The Budgie Trio www.geocities.com/Heartland/6688/ Next site in the ring. Three budgerigars, one page each, colour-coded.
Tabitha's Memorial Page members.xoom.com/margaret_h/tabitha.htm Margaret from the guestbook made this for her cat. It is the best-written page I have found on the internet and I have never told her so directly.
The Cat Fanciers' FAQ www.fanciers.com/faq.html Where I looked up whether the mismatched eyes were a problem. They are not.
Deb's HTML Notes www.geocities.com/Heartland/4827/html.htm My own page of notes on the tags I kept forgetting. Was on this same account, and went the same way as the rest of it.

If any of these mean something to you, or if you are one of the forty, the address at the bottom of the page still works. Otherwise, back to the home page or the photo album.
