Week 8 Session: The Maze
A single objective — change your address — buried inside a process built from conflicting instructions and repeated forms
26 April 2027
Before the session#
Nothing to prepare — the point of The Maze is arriving without a strategy.
In the session#
The objective is one sentence: change your address. The process underneath it is not — deliberately conflicting instructions, unnecessary forms, unclear terminology, information you already gave it once. You attempt the task, then the class analyses exactly where it created failure, and why no amount of visual polish on any one screen could have fixed it.
Afterwards#
A beautiful interface cannot save a terrible process — keep that claim; week 9 is about proving whether your own bad designs actually work, on someone other than you.
The spec
What you bring to the session. Written so a reader can tell whether it has been met without asking you.
- you attempt the objective as given, before reading ahead to the analysis
- you can point to the specific step where the process actually failed you, not just where it felt tedious
- you can name what a beautiful interface on top of this process would not have fixed
