Dr Anselm Pike

Convenes Technical Practice. Former engineering manager who has read more README files than is medically advisable, and asks whether it runs before anything else.

Anselm managed engineering teams for eleven years and hired into them throughout, which means he has read more README files than is medically advisable and can tell you the median time a reviewer spends on one. It is under a minute.

His first question about any artefact is whether it runs, and he asks it kindly, because he has watched plenty of good work fail that question for reasons that had nothing to do with the work. He is unmoved by vocabulary and noticeably moved by a reproducible setup step.

Anselm convenes Technical Practice, delivers the week-2 and week-3 lectures, runs the week-8 red team with Wren Halloway, and takes one leg of the week-10 guest relay. Students in the other two streams are welcome in his tutorials, where they tend to discover that their own conventions are conventions.
