Week 10 Tutorial: Naming a Breach
Examining the public restroom's silence pretence, and what it actually costs to name a breach of it out loud.
28 September 2027
Activity#
Reflect on (don’t stage) a public restroom’s ambient norm — running taps, conversations dropped to nothing — and recall one moment where the pretence of silence held even though everyone present clearly knew otherwise. In the Lab’s terms: you are recalling a moment that stayed Ritual Tap Deployment rather than tipping into Unmasked Acoustic Disclosure.
Record your reaction#
Note what, specifically, would have counted as actually breaking the pretence in that moment, versus what stayed inside it.
Reflection#
In your own words, answer the lecture’s closing question: is this norm protecting privacy, or protecting everyone from admitting there wasn’t any?
