Brief

Bring together the full course to create the strongest portrait series you can make of your partner, from initial design through capture and final post-production.

This capstone asks you to complete the whole photographic process. Define the purpose and visual direction, design the shoot around your partner, make and select the photographs, and complete the post-production needed for a coherent final series. The submitted images should represent the highest level of your partner portrait work at the end of the course.

After the photographs are completely finished, interview your partner about the final series. Record their evaluation, including what they are satisfied or dissatisfied with and why. Use that feedback as evidence in your own critical reflection on the result.

Deliverables

Submit all three components:

  1. Final partner portrait series — 80%. A coherent set of finished, post-produced photographs that demonstrates the full range of relevant course learning.
  2. Partner feedback. An authentic account of the interview conducted after the final photographs were completed.
  3. Self-reflection. Your analysis of the final result, informed by the partner’s response and your own judgement.

You do not need to submit a process statement or a step-by-step account of the shoot and editing process.

Marking approach

The teaching team awards the complete mark. The final photographs contribute 80%; the partner’s satisfaction as evidenced in their feedback, together with the quality of your self-reflection, contributes 20%. Your partner provides feedback but does not directly assign the grade.

The spec

The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
