Brief#
Use the concepts taught in the course to critically analyse a supplied set of photographs and the date and shoot plan that produced them.
You will receive a set of photographs together with the corresponding plan for the date and the shoot. Treat the photographs and the plan as connected: the arrangements shape what was possible, while the photographs show the results of those choices.
Your report must state which parts you like or consider successful and explain why. Where you do not like the result, identify the specific shortcomings, explain what caused them, and propose realistic improvements to the plan or the photographic decisions. Personal preference is welcome, but every conclusion must be supported by evidence from the supplied material and relevant course theory.
Deliverables#
Submit one report that:
- evaluates the supplied photographs and the date and shoot plan;
- identifies successful and unsuccessful choices;
- applies course concepts to explain those judgements; and
- recommends specific improvements that could produce a stronger experience and photographic result.
This is an analysis task. You do not need to produce new photographs for this assessment.
Marking approach#
The teaching team marks the report. There is no separate photography mark for this task. Strong work connects theory to precise observations rather than listing course concepts or relying only on taste.
The spec
The brief poses the problem and leaves room for a response. The spec is the fixed part: what a marker checks. Some lines can be checked mechanically; the rest call for judgement.
- one analysis report is submitted by the deadline
- the report evaluates both the supplied photographs and their date and shoot plan
- judgements are supported with relevant ideas and terminology from the course
- weaknesses are diagnosed clearly and paired with practical improvements
- the work is your own, with sources and assistance acknowledged
How it is marked
The teaching team marks the report as a whole, considering its use of course theory, quality of critical judgement, evidence from the supplied material, and the practicality of its proposed improvements.
