Every piece of graded work in the course, what it is worth, and when it is due.
Assessment#
Four pieces of work. Two of them ask you to write about communities you did not join, and two of them mark what you actually did in the ones you did.
The Contribution Log runs from week 2 and is the spine — everything a Shift produces ends up in it. The other three are due once. Nothing here is an exam, because there is no body of content to examine you on; the material is what happened when you contributed.
Conflict Autopsy
Reconstruct a real dispute in a volunteer community from its public record, and explain what each party could see at the time
Due 29 March 2027 · Weight: 25%
Contribution Log
Ten weeks of real contributions to a real project, logged with their diffs, their outcomes and an honest account of what happened to each one
Due 17 May 2027 · Weight: 30%
Governance Redesign
Take a real community, rewrite how it governs itself, and defend the rewrite against the evidence of what your own rules did for four weeks
Due 24 May 2027 · Weight: 30%
Shift participation
The rostered work itself — queue shifts, appeals, and turning up for a community that depends on you having turned up
