Week 10: Fake Deep II: Say "Liminal" and Watch Them Nod
Week 10 — producing and detecting pseudo-profundity in the same session, including the moment it stops working
26 April 2027
Sokal’s hoax got a paper of engineered nonsense published because it wore the right jargon in front of the right audience; Petrocelli’s research on when people bullshit suggests the same nonsense fails the moment someone expects to be held to it. This week pairs a fake-deep paragraph with real argument on the same subject and watches which parts quietly fall apart.
Outline#
- pairing a fake-deep paragraph with a real philosophical argument on the same subject
- what survives the comparison and what quietly falls apart
- whether “it’s satire” is a defence or just a delay tactic
- what “genuine” is going to mean once the satire wears off, starting next week
